Created in His image to create

A stylized contemporary impressionistic oil painter and instructor, J-Rod

J-Rod paints a wide variety of subjects in his unique skillful handling of his subjects. He captures color, textures and emotion on canvas using the subject to instill peace, joy and wonder in the viewers. "My real canvases are the viewers. My mediums are the connections made with them, my vision on canvas and the story behind them. My tools are my creativity and a variety of painting equipment."

"My favorite subjects to paint are anything to do with water and from my dreams. I love streams, waterfalls, mountains, dunes, coastlands, cherry blossoms, vast cloud formations and nocturnal scenery. My favorite colors to paint with are vibrant yellows, blues, greens, and warm oranges and the vast contrasts they create."

His Skillful use of color and light, and tutelage under V... Vaughan, earned him the title "Grand Champion" in the 2009 Austin Rodeo art contest. The western piece titled "The Balker" inspired by Balaam's donkey in the Bible (located in Numbers chapters 22-24) was sold at the highest price at the contest's entire auction. In 2021 and 2022 J-Rod's work was displayed in the Annual Juried Art Exhibit in Panama City Center for the Arts.

J-Rod has created multiple murals for the Military in his 9 year Military Service. His art and service bolstered comraderie and morale among troops. From holiday pieces to individual unit representations, his creations stir the patriotic spirit of all military branches.

"I paint because it is where I find the most peace. God gave it to me as a literal lifeline for me during dark times, as we'll as a light and breath of fresh air in the good times. It's not just for me. I get away to be with Jesus to use the gift He gave me to create beautiful representations of His own creative design in nature. I paint to communicate His beauty I see in the world and in others. My hope is to spread the gifts he has given me with everyone willing and able to receive them."
